Project Description

High Tech High, in partnership with the CARPE College Access Network, is working to identify solutions to increase the number and diversity of students who can successfully navigate the complex process of applying to college. The FAFSA 10 Page Comic will help the CARPE College Access Network aim: increase the number of Black, Latinx, and low-income students who apply, enroll, and ultimately go to a four-year college.

In designing this comic, we examined the text of the legislation passed by the state of California to understand the information that students are required to receive and determine which aspects would be best suited for the comic. Our goals during this Phase 1 of the project were to identify the topic for the comic, determine what character will be giving the information, explain the core messaging, and provide a main summary of the overall story.

This brief was commissioned to learn more about the particular communication and college knowledge issues impacting HTH campuses and to identify possible solutions to further support HTH students, families, and faculty to engage with the complex processes related to college admission and enrollment. This proposal outlines a summary of findings from several design interviews conducted with key stakeholders from the HTH organization along with recommendations and next steps.
